Russian hackers used Windows bug to hack NATO and Ukraine
Thursday, October 16, 2014 Russian Hackers hacked NATO, EU and Ukrainian Firms- Claims iSight – Cyber intelligence firm blame Zero-day for the hack. A potential security flaw in MS windows operating system has given an opportunity to Russian hackers. According to a report from a cyber security company iSight, Russian hackers have exploited this flaw and have been spying on numerous national security targets even NATO and Ukrainian Government. The Washington Post reported that iSight partners underwent a research and concluded that the hacking group, which has been labeled as SandWorm, has been working actively since 2009 for Moscow government. The group's activites were being observed by iSight since 2013 and the vulnerability was discovered in August 2014. Report from iSight states that the Kiev government came under attack while the NATO summit was underway in Wales and Russian actions in support of eastern Ukraine's separatist rebels was the main topic of discussion. These emails contain attachments and as soon as these files are opened, hackers gain access to the computer.
